Planned gifts can be designed to meet your personal philanthropic and financial goals. Some planned gifts, such as bequests, require no current outlay of funds. Other planned gifts, such as the charitable remainder trust, make it possible to support our work, enjoy a tax deduction, and receive a lifetime income at the same time.

Answers to commonly asked questions about alumni contributions.

• How can I donate to the Annual Fund Campaign?

  • You have two options — make an online donation via credit card or a traditional donation via check. To make an online donation, just click the “Donate Online” button on the left. For donations by check, click the “Donate by Mail” button on the left, print out the donation form and mail it in along with your check (made payable to “Lowell Alumni Association”) to the address shown on the form.

• Are donations to the Lowell Alumni Association tax-deductible?

  • Yes, to the full extent allowed under federal law. The Lowell Alumni Association is recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the IRS.

• What is the Lowell Alumni Association’s federal tax identification number?

  • 94-6125408

• Does the Lowell Alumni Association qualify to participate in my employer’s matching gift program?

  • Although the answer to this question depends upon the particular rules of your employer’s program, the Lowell Alumni Association receives numerous corporate matching gifts each year. Matching gifts have recently been received from the following corporations: Adobe Systems, Bank of America, Boeing, Charles Schwab & Co., ChevronTexaco, Cisco Systems, Dolby, Edison International, Gap Inc., McDonald’s, Merrill Lynch, Nike, PG&E, Philip Morris, Providian Financial, SBC, Wells Fargo and others.

• Can I donate stock/securities to the Lowell Alumni Association?

  • Gifts of appreciated securities, stocks and bonds are a great way to support Lowell High School while reducing your taxes. The process for making a stock gift is easy: Gifts may be transferred directly by your broker to our brokerage account or certificates may be given to the Alumni Association. Yes, several alumni each year donate stock/securities to the LAA. [Note that there are special tax advantages involved in donating appreciated stock/securities.] To donate stock/securities, have them transferred to the following account:

• Does the Lowell Alumni Association accept credit card donations?

  • Yes, you can now make an online donation using your Visa, MasterCard or American Express Card. Just click here.

• Can I designate my gift for a specific program or purpose?

  • Yes, donors may certainly do so, but keep in mind that unrestricted donations to the LAA allow us to direct alumni dollars to those uses that provide the greatest benefit to Lowell’s students.

• If I wish to endow a permanent fund with the Lowell Alumni Association, should I designate my gift to establish a scholarship fund?

  • Although many generous alumni donors have endowed college scholarships through the LAA (often in honor of or in memory of a husband, wife or classmate) and those funds have directly supported many Lowell graduates, the LAA also encourages donors to consider other options to benefit Lowell students while they are enrolled at Lowell. Examples include endowed funds to benefit a particular academic department or program or endowed scholarship funds supporting summer study opportunities for students during their tenure at Lowell.
